The Christmas season brings with it a level of anticipation and excitement that we look forward to every year. Here are 5 creative ways to incorporate short excursions and full-blown travel into your family celebration this year:

1) Visit A Christmas Tree Farm: While we all enjoy a bright and colorful Christmas tree, why not make it extra special by taking a trip to a Christmas tree farm to pick out your own icon of Christmas? To top off the day, how about a stop for hot chocolate on the way to the farm or on the way home? In our family we even go so far as to wear matching Christmas shirts for the event! Many tree farms offer live trees with an intact root ball so that the trees can be planted after Christmas.

2) Take a Christmas Train Ride: In many locations throughout the United States you can find a local train route running a special Christmas train ride, many of them even feature Polar Express Rides. Regardless of whether you live in a warm climate, or cold, Christmas train rides are quite special. A few trains to check out can include:

*Great Smoky Mountains Railroad in Bryson City, NC

*Adirondack Railroad in Utica, NY

*Branson Scenic Railway in Branson, MO

*Grand Canyon Railway in Williams, AZ

*California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento, CA

*Royal Gorge Railroad in Canyon City, CO

3) Gift A Vacation for Christmas: Surprise your loved ones with an extra special gift this year...a vacation! Maybe a trip later in the winter, during Spring Break, or even summertime. You can get creative in revealing the trip destination by wrapping different "clues" that lead your family to guess the location of the trip.

4) Surprise Your Family With a Trip Leaving on Christmas Day: While many families have Christmas traditions they love to celebrate at home, why not add to the excitement with a surprise trip leaving on Christmas Day or sometime the week between Christmas and New Years?! Believe it or not, flying on Christmas Day can land you some fantastic fares! Perhaps your family would like to continue the Christmas celebration in a town decked out with Christmas lights and holiday shows, such as Pigeon Forge, TN, or maybe a warm, white sand beach, such as The Florida Keys, beckons your call. There's no wrong answer to this kind of surprise!

5) Spend Christmas in a New Place: For families with a sense of adventure, why not spend Christmas in a new place? Many destinations around the country put great effort into welcoming Christmas visitors and can make your holiday celebration very special. Individual lodging options that decorate for Christmas, complete with a Christmas tree, are located all over the county and create a unique holiday experience that your family won't soon forget.

Making Christmas special is always an exciting task, but often it can feel overwhelming. If you're looking for creative ideas, fun destinations, or would like help with booking a trip, be sure to reach out to us at Landscape Travel. Incredible travel is all we know!
